Scotland Campus Sports Player of the Week: Lucas Barros, Soccer
Lethal for his versatility, know-how, and multi-layered style of play, Lucas Barros helped lead first year program Scotland Campus Soccer to a 2-0 win over Goretti on Friday.
Newly-minted head coach Scott Cox and staff have been impressed with the Brazil native's gritty play and attention to detail.
Barros overcame a nagging injury early in the season and bounced back instantly, refusing to let his competitive spirits dampen.
In the inaugural season at Scotland Campus Sports, expect the Knights to go as the selfless and high IQ Barros goes.
Providing blanketing defensive pressure and subsequently helping the Knights' holding midfielder, Barros was additionally able to link up play between the Knights' offense and defense.
He's developed a rapport with teammate Alejandro Roman.
Bolstered by this connection with Roman, Cox's center attacking midfielder, the Knights (1-0) formed a relatively well flowing fluid attack throughout.
"Lucas poses a great sense of balance and plays with a smooth rhythm that is easy for his teammates to adapt to. He won the possession battle in the middle of the field and fed others with pinpoint passes," said Knights head coach Scott Cox.
"Lucas is a smart soccer player who sees the field well. His selfless play will set up the others for success. The season is young and we will have to wait and see how he develops."
