Athletes of the Week: Scotland Campus Sports

Jayson Woodrich, 2020, basketball: With his knockdown catch-and-stick game and ability to spread the floor out with his deep 3-point range, Woodrich is steadily developing his niche as a certifiable 3-point trigger man for the Knights' Prep National team.

Woodrich has been smooth and consistent throughout pre-season workouts,  a stabilizing force with his scoring.

At 6-foot-6 and with his knack for securing rebounds, the Ohio native will play a multi-dimensional role.

After averaging 29 PPG as a high school senior, culminating his career with a first team All State nod, Woodrich will gauge his game against elite national competition as a post-graduate.

West Virginia recently hosted Woodrich on an unofficial visit and the Mountaineers appear to be a likely destination.

While Woodrich enters with less obscurity than last year's 3-point ace, Austin Galuppo (now at Weber State), one senses he will play a similar role.

Galuppo emerged as an immediate offensive sparkplug off the bench, hitting deep 3-pointers and sparking significant runs with his shooting en route to the Knights' historic 36-2 season.

Woodrich has the tool-set to be a gunslinger but provide more in crucial compartments such as defensive versatility and rebounding.

Buoyed by vital aspects such as shot selection, release time, and the ability to circumvent those maddening swoons which tend to derail streaky shooters, Woodrich has the essential make-up of a sharpshooter.

With traditional New England powers such as Brewster Academy (NH), Woodstock Academy (CT), Putnam Science (CT), and so on reloading and harvesting new talent, Woodrich's role will be instrumental in setting a loud tone for a high-scoring Scotland team. The first true gauge of how ready made this team is will take place at the Prep National Showcase in Connecticut.

Like teammates Darlinstone Dubar and Norance Berry, Woodrich will be flushed into a prominent role.

Christian Hernandez/Brady Bakner, 2020, baseball: The sizzling tandem has been instrumental in Scotland High School's 7-0 start. Both are emblematic of a Scotland team that doesn't boast tremendous power but instead hits for average and hits with consistency.

Both are hitting above .500 as the Knights have defeated foes handily this fall, having outscored opponents by a whopping 30-3 margin in this last trio of games. Bakner and Hernandez are hitting .625 and .579 respectively, as both have been steady sources for extra base hits.

Scotland Campus has been a revelation with its situational hitting. The Knights have displayed a unique blend of depth and strength in nunbers, jumping on starters early with a sheer hitting onslaught.
