2019 Prep/JUCO All Academic Team (Part I)

Jereon Kales, G

The high rising guard is fueled by sneaky athleticism, an abundance of energy on both ends of the floor and a three-level scoring acumen.

One of the 6-foot-4  Amsterdam, Holland native's most notable performances took place at last year's Memphis Battlegrounds tournament.

Then at Scotland Campus, the 6-foot-4 guard was knifing into traffic and finishing through contact consistently. He piled up 15 points to go with six assists and six rebounds in the tourney opener, finding his mid-range game and leaking out for transition finishes.

Kales boasts a 4.0 GPA and never earned a grade lower than A throughout high school. He's adept at international business and equally savvy with computers. He spent time off the court working with the National Honor Society and even penned a book about his desire to start a business in America and find international clientele.

Khyree Taylor, G

Don't let that 6-foot frame fool you. The oil-smooth guard plays much bigger, attacking the rim without a trace of trepidation and slicing through traffic with a developed first step.

Taylor averaged 15 points, six assists and five boards this past season at the Masters School (CT). He can best be depicted as a calming influence with the ball, a guy who looks to set up his teammates first and facilitate. If he has the opportunity to score he will, as he's proven with a reliable outside shot that he's added range to.

After transferring midway through the season, the Elmsford, N.Y. native buckles down in the classroom and received a crash course in pretty much all of his classes, making up for lost time and upping his credits.

He received a 3.0 GPA on the year. With his gym rat mentality, the Westchester County product sets an example of how to master the time management concepts of prep school and college, balancing the academics and commitment to arduous workouts and a demanding practice and slapdash game schedule.

Indrek Sunelik, Guard/Forward

The 6-foot-7 forward has evolved from a deadly outside shooter to an all around scoring threat. While his true calling card is his deep, NBA caliber three-point range and automatic set shot, Sunelik improved incrementally at creating his shot off the dribble and knifing to the rim and finishing. He still needs to pack muscle on and absorb the brutal at the rim hits which will surely be awaiting him at the Division-I level.

Out of Estonia, Sunelik's defensive versatility is one of the more notable assets of his game. With his length, he's able to instigate turnovers and convert them into transition dunks. Sunelik recently committed to Northwest Florida College, where newly minted head coach Butch Pierre is moving swiftly to fill up roster spots.

Sunelik, who took time to adapt and assimilate to America and learn the intricacies of the English language, earned a 3.5 GPA this past semester at the now defunct The Nation Christian Academy. He holds a Division-I offer from Albany and has interest from the likes of Bryant and Arkansas State.

Remy Robert, G

The 6-foot-2 sharpshooter had several eye opening performances with his adroit outside touch. He's steadily added to his all around scoring arsenal, becoming more fluid with his mid range game and pull-up. Developing the bouncy style necessary to survive the day to day grind of Florida's uber athletic JUCO ranks at SCF, there has been a tremendous transformation process stemming back to his post grad year at Believe Prep (TN).

Robert wakes up with the passion and fire in his heart to play Division-1 basketball, where he hopes to establish his niche as a traditional knockdown shooter who will score it in a variety of ways when he sees the opportunity.

Robert thrived in the classroom this spring semester, garnering a 3.8 GPA.

Taylor Downs, F

What? Soccer player? Are you sure about that one?

You can't pigeonhole the Hastings All State senior striker as simply an "athlete." Known more for soccer, Downs' will and desire to win was translatable to the Yellow Jackets 13 wins this season.

Though springboard bouncy, the high energy forward displayed a pack of refined post moves and was a pest on the offensive and defensive glass.

His heart and hustle heavy game enable him to snatch rebounds over taller guys, making everyone forget about him playing the four and five at 6-feet-4.

Downs earned a 4.0 this semester at the prestigious Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, thriving in a chock full of AP classes.

He's stoked by confidence every time he steps on the floor. His high level  vertical is a direct byproduct of the time he spends hauling in passes at Reynolds field in Youth football games, where he's constantly snatching balls in stride. Considering they never pass the fucking ball to anyone else, Downs makes the most of his touches. Amherst College (MA) is getting a gamer, both on the field, in the classroom, and of course in the clubs.
